Chair, c.1889
Oak, now with 20th-century velvet
This chair comes from a set designed by A.H. Mackmurdo and the Century Guild for the library of Dr. Joseph Wiglesworth (1854–1919), superintendent of the Rainhill County Asylum, Lancashire. It was probably made by E. Goodall & Co., Manchester. It is one of a pair that included armchairs.
