This chair was formerly in the collection of actor and antique dealer tristram Jellinek (1933–1995). It is one of a set of four.

Description

A set of three oak backstools and one similar, the plain top rail beneath turned finials and over straight plain slats flanked by ball-and-fillet-turned uprights, the panelled seats set within moulded frames raised on ball-and-fillet-turned front legs with conforming high fore-stretcher united by plain stretchers, the front legs extended to form turned feet.

English, c. 1690-1720.

Condition

Generally fair to good. One chair with broken top rail repaired with an old iron brace. Another chair with loose joints and re-pegged. The other two chairs in good condition.
